Our office is comprised of three dentists:  Dr. Maria A. Barden, Dr. Richard C. Dodger and Dr. Martin L. Waltz.


Maria A. Barden, D.M.D.

Dr. Maria Antoinette Barden is a graduate of both Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia and the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, New Jersey. She has been in practice for 27 years and in private practice for the last 24 years.

Prior to becoming a dentist, Dr. Barden served the Newark community as a science teacher in the Newark Public School System and was the Director of the High School Urban Engineering Program at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Dr. Barden has served at Secretary, Vice President and President of her local Commonwealth Dental Society.  She has also served as either a Delegate or a Trustee to the National Dental Society for over 20 years.

Dr. Barden is an active member of the community.  She has served on the Health Advisory Board for Union Country Head Start and the Board of Trustees at Babyland Inc. Dr. Barden has also worked for the East Orange Health Department's Dental Clinic since 1985, providing quality dental service to the children of East Orange.

Dr. Barden has received many awards. Among them she has received Past President's Awards from the Commonwealth Dental Society, the President's Award for Distinguished Leadership from the National Dental Association, and the Phenomenal Achievement and Leadership Award from Women Dentists, National Dental Association.

During her professional career, Dr. Barden has been a resident of East Orange and Plainfield, New Jersey. Her hobbies include traveling and reading. She also enjoys spending time with her family in Maryland, Virginia and Alabama.

Richard C. Dodger, D.D.S.

Dr. Richard Craig Dodger graduated from Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Nashville, Tennessee. He has practiced dentistry for 34 years. After dental school, he did a two year tour with United States Navy.

Prior to dental school, Dr, Dodger graduated from Linden High School in Linden, New Jersey and he is an alumnus of Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Dodger has been very active in his community as well in dental organizations. He is the former Dental Director at Runnells Hospital in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey. Presently he is the Dental Director at the East Orange Health Department's Dental Clinic.

In addition to his devotion to his career in dentistry, he is a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Cranford, New Jersey, where he serves as member of Trustee Board, member of Usher Board, and chairman of the Building Fund Committee.

Doctor Dodger is an active member of Commonwealth Dental Society and the National Dental Association.

Dr. Dodger is a retired Lt. Colonel from The U.S. Army. He was a member of the Army Reserve for 22 years.

Dr. Dodger is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Dr. Richard C. Dodger is married to Wilhelmina T. Dodger, who is a retired teacher of mathematics. He is the father of two children, La Tonyia (son in law, Ricardo) and Craig. He is also the proud grandfather of Gabriella.

Dr. Dodger’s favorite hobbies are travel (foreign and domestic), physical fitness, landscaping and babysitting his granddaughter.


Martin Waltz, D.M.D.

Dr. Martin Luther Waltz is a graduate of University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed a one year residency in general dentistry. Dr Waltz has also completed a two year extensive continuing education course at New York University in "Full Mouth Rehabilitation". He has practiced Dentistry for 28 years.

He has been a member of the National Dental Association, where he served in the House of Delegates for a number of years. Dr Waltz is a member and past president of the Commonwealth Dental Society. He has been very involved in the community and educating children as to the benefits of good oral health. He has worked as a staff dentist for the Irvington Board of Education and currently providing dental services for the East Orange Dental Clinic for 27 years.

Before attending dental school, Dr. Waltz served six years in the United States Marine Corp where he served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He graduated from Central High School in Newark, NJ, and received a Baccalaureate Degree in Biology from Kean College.

He is married to his loving wife, Marlene, for over 30 years. They have two wonderful daughters, who has blessed them with five grandchildren.

Dr. Waltz is a member of Bethany Baptist Church where he is very active in his church choirs. After playing tennis most of his life, his favorite past-times are golf and fishing.
